Conference Papers:
'The Church in the Centre of the City'
In September 2005, Cardiff University hosted a conference 'The Church in the
Centre of the City' for city centre staff and clergy from across the UK.
About 80 people from a wide range of denominations came together for four
days of seminars and visits.
Conference papers are available to download at: http://methodistcitycentrenetwork.org.uk/resources.html
There was a growing move towards setting up a wider Christian network of such
churches and their staff.
The only national bodies for this specialist ministry were the
Methodist City Centre Group (MCCG), the City Mission network and the Cathedral Dean's Network. In the absence of a general group, the MCCG agreed to act as hosts to the wider City Centre Churches Network.
The next City Centre Churches Conference, hosted by MCCG, was on Spirituality at the Centre, from 26-28 November 2008 at The Hayes, Swanwick and the speakers were:
- Ann Morisy, community theologian
- David Walton, local preacher and the then Vice-President of the Methodist Conference
- Martyn Atkins, General Secretary of the Methodist Church
